According to Marina Bikchurina, a senior researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, more than 60 cancer patients in China have received boron neutron capture therapy developed in Novosibirsk. Boron neutron capture therapy is an innovative cancer treatment method. During the treatment, drugs accumulate in tumor cells, and then patients receive neutron irradiation. The neutrons interact with substances in tumor cells, triggering nuclear reactions that precisely release energy inside cancer cells, destroying them from within. This method significantly reduces damage to healthy tissues and shows great potential in treating complex cancer types.

The research and development of the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy system originated from the Novosibirsk Nuclear Physics Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Currently, one of the three systems has been delivered to China and put into operation. In a video posted on the Telegram channel of the National Physics and Mathematics Center, Bikchurina introduced: "It has been installed in China. To date, more than 60 patients have received successful treatment."
Furthermore, Bikchurina revealed that the institute has delivered another boron neutron capture therapy device to the Blokhin National Medical Research Center. Currently, the third device is being in the outpatient clinic of the Blokhin Cancer Center. The team is working full steam ahead, hoping to launch clinical trials next year.
